KUALA LUMPUR: The candidate representing the unity government in the Sungai Bakap by-election has been finalised and will be revealed tomorrow.
Unity Government Secretariat chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement said the announcement of the candidate will be made at 9pm.
He said the decision was made during the top leadership meeting of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional leaders earlier today.
In the statement, Asyraf said PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir have been appointed as co-chairs of the unity government election machinery steering committee.
"The appointment (of Rafizi and Zambry) was to coordinate and standardise the election machinery for the upcoming (Sungai Bakap) by-election.
"Meanwhile, the joint operation chairman for Sungai Bakap by-election, representing the Penang unity government, will be led by Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir," he said.
The Election Commission (EC) fixed July 6 for the Sungai Bakap by-election following the death of its assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
