Pas hopes Bersatu 6's seats will be vacated, by-elections held with Nenggiri

KOTA BARU: Pas is still waiting for Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to decide on the status of the six Bersatu members of parliament, whose membership had been terminated, before taking their next action.

Party deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said apart from the six, the party was also waiting to determine the status of one assemblyman from Selangor.

He said Pas believed that by-elections for the six parliamentary constituencies and the Selangor seat would be held simultaneously with the Nenggiri by-election.

"We are waiting patiently on the Speaker's decision while at the same time, along with other component parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN), will continue with our discussion to select the best candidates for the elections.

"The candidates who can help bring victory are PN's priority and we will work as a team similar to what have been done by our partners like Gerakan and Bersatu in Sungai Bakap by-election," said the Kubang Kerian member of parliament.

On June 24, Johari said he had 21 days to study the notice he received from Beluran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, who is Bersatu vice-president.

Johari said once he had all the answers, he would inform the public through the media.

The six Bersatu MPs who lost their party membership are Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang) and Gua Musang's Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who was also Nenggiri assemblyman.

The Selangor assemblyman is Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari of Selat Klang. His notice of termination was submitted to state Speaker Lau Weng San by state opposition chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali on June 21.

On June 20, Bersatu confirmed that it had submitted the notice to Johari's office on the status of its six MPs.

Kiandee in a statement had said the notice was submitted in accordance with Article 49A of the Federal Constitution.

The notices on the vacancies at the six parliamentary seats, said Kiandee, were signed by him in his capacity as the Bersatu chief whip.
