BN to field young, experienced candidate for Nenggiri polls

MASJID TANAH: Barisan Nasional will be fielding a young candidate for the Nenggiri state by-election, slated for Aug 17.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the identified candidate also has on-the-ground experience.

"Of course we've chosen a young candidate, with on-the-ground (experience).

"We cannot field someone just by plucking the person from the sky.

"It must be someone who comes (with ground experience)," he said after officiating the Masjid Tanah Umno division meeting here, today.

Yesterday, Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said their political bureau had identified one of three shortlisted candidates to contest in the by-election.

He said they would be submitting the name of the selected candidate to Kelantan Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan.

The nomination of candidates for the state seat by-election would be held on Aug 3, while early voting is set for Aug 13.

The election was called after the Kelantan state assembly declared the seat vacant on June 19.

This was following the cessation of former state assemblyman Mohd Azizi Abu Naim's membership in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, relayed through an official notice to him on June 13.
