Bersatu's Faizal Azumu says he's willing to let go of party's No 2. position

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is willingly letting go of his deputy presidency in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to avoid any clashes for the position.

This was following party incumbent secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin's announcement of his decision to contest for the position in the next party election.

Ahmad Faizal said he had already discussed the matter with president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the suggestion was made by the party president and that negotiations had been conducted.

"So, in the negotiations, we agreed that I would step down and not offer myself as deputy president, and that Datuk Seri Hamzah was requested by the grassroots and leadership to take over my current position.

"However, my role and that of my colleagues will remain within the leadership.

"The most important thing is that we ensure the Bersatu team continues to fight for Allah SWT and the people.

"Our struggle for the people takes precedence over the interests of any one politician.

"We are proud of that, and I hope this will be an example for others, because in Bersatu, we try to lead by example," he said during a press conference at Sabah International Convention Centre here.

Ahmad Faizal, Hamzah and Sabah Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee had earlier attended the party's Sabah Conference Rules Briefing.
