KUALA KANGSAR: A former Bersatu member of Parliament (MP) has urged the party's deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu to defend his post in its coming party polls.
Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, the Kuala Kangsar MP, said he did not feel it was right for Faizal to be demoted from deputy president to vice president.
"As a friend, I think Datuk Seri Peja is a political person, I would advise him to fight for his position in the party selection," he told reporters after presenting laptops to outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students here.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Faizal would make way for Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to rise to the party's number two position.
Meanwhile, Iskandar said he was relieved that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has ruled that his seat will not be vacated after he ceased to be a Bersatu member over his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"As the MP for Kuala Kangsar, I will continue to protect the interests of my constituents.
"My support for the government aims to ensure we receive the necessary allocations. I will to assist the community," he said.
