KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul today said that he is not changing his mind over his decision on the six parliamentary seats held by former Bersatu members.
Johari said he had conducted thorough studies on the matter before arriving at a conclusion on the status of the six Members of Parliament.
"When I receive anything that is given to me, I will make sure that I will study everything.
"In fact, I have read the statements in the amendment of Article 49A (of the Federal Constitution).
"(However,) the decision remains as what was informed to Beluran (MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee through the letter)," he said in Dewan Rakyat, today.
Johari said this in response to the opposition's calls for a point of order to seek further clarification over his decision on the six seats.
He also took a jab at Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin over the latter's response to his letter.
"I would like to refer to the statement made by Muhyiddin on July 10, in response to my letter dated July 9.
"The stance taken by him towards me was that I have to be criticised (for the decision I made).
"(But) I am not a postman and I ensure everything is studied when given to me."
Yesterday, Muhyiddin confirmed that the six seats held by its former members will not be vacated despite notice issued by the party.
Muhyiddin had said the decision made by Johari deeply dissapointed the party and claimed the latter acted beyond his jurisdiction in making a twisted intepretation as only the courts had the authority to interpret the Federal Constitution.
Bersatu had earlier called for a point of order earlier in the Dewan Rakyat to seek further clarification from Johari over the decision made on the status of the party's six former members.
