Pas has never sent delegation to discuss or negotiate - Pas VP

KUALA TERENGGANU: Pas has never sent a delegation to discuss or negotiate with any party leader under the unity government.

The party's vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar also insisted there were no plans for the party to hold meetings or similar engagements with the unity government.

He said that if a meeting is held, it would focus on government administration matters rather than discussing political direction.

"Meetings in Parliament or during any other meetings are based on their capacity as the members of parliament (MPs) or assemblymen.

"It should not be classified as political discussions. Instead, if such a meeting were to occur with Umno leaders, it would fall within the context of governance administration and the roles of MPs and assemblymen in their respective states," he said.

Samsuri said this when met after the state assembly meeting at Wisma Darul Iman here today.

On Sunday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that there were requests from opposition representatives to meet him and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss possible cooperation for the next general election.

Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, however, said he was not yet open to the idea or to meeting the representatives from the opposition bloc.

He reiterated that there were no official discussions held between Umno and Pas.

He said if there were meetings between leaders and members of the two parties, it was done unofficially or in a personal capacity.

On the same day, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he had no information regarding any requests from opposition leaders to meet with Anwar and Zahid.

Tuan Ibrahim said the party had never authorised any of its leaders to engage in discussions (regarding possible cooperation in the next general election).

Samsuri, who is also Terengganu menteri besar, said Pas remains steadfast with its coalition partners in Perikatan Nasional (PN).

"We believe that the future of a better country, 'a new Malaysia,' should be built upon the existing political cooperation.

"Pas, together with its partners in PN needs to be developed over time. InsyaAllah, this will be the best offer for the new Malaysia," he said.
