'Opposition MPs can continue wearing white ribbons in coming parliamentary session'

GUA MUSANG: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor said opposition members of parliament can continue to wear white ribbons during the next parliamentary session in October.

He said they can wear the ribbons on their left arms as it does not go against the regulations set by the Lower House.

"For me, there is no issue if they want to continue doing so in the October session, as long as they follow the regulations and it is not against the rules set by the Dewan Rakyat speaker," he told reporters when met in Kuala Betis, here, yesterday.

On July 16, Ramli was reported to have said he saw no issue with opposition MPs wearing white ribbons during the recent parliamentary session.

He said this when the matter was raised by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan).

Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had said all Perikatan Nasional MPs would wear white armbands in Parliament as a sign of protest against the decision made by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul not to vacate six parliamentary seats held by sacked Bersatu MPs.

The six MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar ) and Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang).
