KUALA LUMPUR: DAP leaders have demanded an apology from an individual who labelled the party as 'kafir harbi' (non-believers who are against Islam) during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah held last night for the Nenggiri by-election.
In a joint statement, DAP central executive committee (CEC) members — Syeikh Umar Bagharin Ali, Syahredzan Johan and Young Syefura Othman — also urged the PN and Pas leadership to clarify their stance on the matter.
"We strongly condemn the statement. DAP is a legitimate political party with members from various races, including Muslim members.
"PN and Pas must clarify their stance on the matter, otherwise, they are urged to condemn such labels made (towards DAP).
"We also urge PN to campaign maturely and peacefully, rather than engaging in hateful politics like this," the statement read.
The trio also said the extreme labelling made against DAP was a 'takfiri' act against Muslim DAP members and was unacceptable. Takfiri refers to a Muslim who accuses another Muslim or an adherent of another Abrahamic faith of apostasy.
A two-minute video of the ceramah held yesterday (Aug 8) has made the rounds on social media platforms, where the host of the ceramah could be heard saying that kafir harbi categories include DAP.
"What is kafir harbi? Do you know who kafir harbi is in Malaysia? (It is) DAP and they have made plans to take over Malaysia," the individual said.
The ceramah was also attended by several Pas members, including Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman and Muafakat Nasional chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
