Umno must continue to uphold core struggles, says Puteri Umno chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has urged the party to continue focusing on its three core areas of struggle — religion, education and the economy — to regain the support of the Malays and Bumiputeras.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi said Umno has always been dedicated to these three core areas in developing a successful nation.

"The wing advocates the empowerment of these three areas, which form the foundation of our struggle, to regain the support of Malays and Bumiputera.

"These areas have always been at the core of our struggles and this is our DNA," she said in her policy speech at the Puteri Umno delegates' meeting here today.

Present were Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and supreme council member Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, Nurul Amal said Umno has played a key role in championing religious matters in the country, which is evident through the establishment of the Umno ulama council as an important body that addresses more than just specific issues.

"We hope this council will play a leading role in matters related to the Muslim community in Malaysia."

Regarding educational rights, Nurul Amal added that the wing fully supports the Higher Education Ministry's decision to retain Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) for Malays, natives of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as Orang Asli, in line with Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.

"We also urge that the education system for Malays and Bumiputera be refined. The wing believes that education has the power to change lives, act as a catalyst to overcome poverty and enrich their spirits and minds.

"Therefore, we remain committed to upholding this core principle for our children and beloved nation."

Nurul Amal also said the wing will continue to champion the Bumiputera Economy Policy to ensure that the socioeconomic status of Malays and Bumiputera improves in line with other ethnic groups in Malaysia.
