BN, PH to use 'hybird' approach during Mahkota by-election campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: All Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan parties will mobilise their respective machinery to help Umno in the Mahkota state seat by-election in Johor.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the unity government will adopt a 'hybrid' approach for the campaigning next month.

Through this approach, the Umno president said, the parties will be divided according to demographics in the state constituency.

"We have reached out to component parties in the unity government for them to mobilise their election machinery.

"Of the 66,000 voters in Mahkota, 35 per cent of them are from the Chinese community.

"There are certain segments (among the Chinese voters) will be assigned to DAP, there are also segments (among the Chinese voters) will be assigned to MCA.

"We have also asked MIC to work together with Indian leaders from PKR in our bid to win the support of some 8,000 voters from the Indian community in Mahkota," he told reporters here today.

Zahid was asked to comment on DAP's announcement that the party will lend its support to Umno during the campaigning for the Mahkota by-election.

DAP publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching said she hoped that the involvement of the party will help boost Umno's chance to retain the seat in the by-election.

It was reported that the Election Commission fixed Sept 14 as the nomination of candidates and Sept 28 as polling day.
