Penang DAP delegate questions if party fears its own shadow

GEORGE TOWN: A state DAP delegate has accused the party of being afraid of its own shadow.

DAP Happy Valley branch chairman R. Ganeson asked why newsmen were not allowed to cover the debate session during the Penang DAP state ordinary convention held at the Setia SPICE Arena here today.

"It is sad that reporters are not allowed to cover the debate session but could cover every other part.

"That is the most important part. To hear what the delegates have to say.

"When DAP was in the opposition then, the whole convention was opened for media coverage.

"Now that it is the government, they do not allow reporters to hear what the delegates have to say. Is Penang DAP afraid of its own shadow? he asked.

Ganeson said DAP has done well for Penang, and as such, there was nothing for them to be afraid of.

Meanwhile, Ganeson also lashed out at DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke for his interference in the state DAP elections.

Loke had proposed for Human Resources Minister Steven Sim to lead Penang DAP while Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying to continue as the state secretary.

Loke had said the "Sim-Lim" combined leadership would strengthen the party.

A total of 31 candidates contested in the Penang DAP state elections today.

to the state committee.

"I am from the Happy Valley branch but we are not happy at all.

"The way Loke put it, it appeared that the other 13 candidates are useless. He should be neutral. He should ask the delegates to choose the best 15 candidates. That is fair.

"I am not the only one raising this issue during the debate. Any delegate also spoke on the matter," he added.

Separately, Ganeson questioned the appointment of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board chairman, saying a replacement was necessary.

He said the board was a state entity.

"And a member of parliament sitting in the board is not right. By right, it should be held by the state executive council member.

"In this case, I am supporting Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo because he is part of the state executive council member," he said.
