SHAH ALAM: PKR has successfully amended its constitution to increase the number of delegates that would vote in the party election.
The party secretary-general, Dr Fuziah Salleh said the amendment would involve the election process for the party's top six positions and 20 members of the party's Central Leadership Council at the PKR National Congress.
"This constitutional amendment also involves the principle of setting gender and ethnic quotas.
"The special congress witnessed more than two-thirds of delegates agreeing to and approving all the proposed amendments to the party's constitution," Fuziah said in a statement after the party congress earlier.
Earlier, the party held a special congress at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Shah Alam.
Also present were the PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Rafizi Ramli together with other party top leaders.
Meanwhile, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil revealed that despite the amendment being successfully approved earlier, the delegates quota for each division would be discussed by the party leadership.
He said the quota for each division would be different with one another depending on the number of party members for the respective division.
"It will be different; we will set it at certain branches with a larger number of members, and there will be an increase in the number to make it more proportional, matching the number of (party) members.
"Some divisions may have a few thousand members, while others may have tens of thousands. We want to ensure fairness for divisions that may have more members," Fahmi said after the special congress.
He said the demographic of each division would also become a consideration for the delegates quota formula.
He added other considerations would also include the ethnicity and gender aspects to ensure that the delegates would comprise an inclusive background.
Besides, the party also amended its party constitution to allow the delegates to vote for the PKR National Congress physically during the congress or via online voting.
