SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah Umno will go on the ground in a 'Jelajah Bongkar' tour to encourage the people to evaluate the performance of the Perikatan Nasional state government.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the party would present facts to the people, so that they could evaluate the performance of elected representatives that they voted for during the previous general election and state election.
"Under the programme, we will go to the ground and present to the people what is factual and what are slander and deception.
"This is what has been planned by Kedah Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and all the 15 Umno divisions in the state.
"The objective of this tour is to remind all Kedahans of how crucial it is for them to carefully evaluate the performance of each leader that they have chosen as elected representatives," he told reporters after launching the tour at Menara MPSPK here today.
Present were Madhzir, state Umno Information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin and state Umno leaders.
Johari, who is also the Plantation and Commodities Minister, stressed the importance of evaluating the performance of elected representatives in managing issues faced by the people.
"The most important point is how we manage issues faced by the people. For example, the massive flooding and how the federal government has channelled RM13 million (to Kedah).
"This is among the questions that I asked the Umno divisions in Kedah, whether the people affected by the disaster are getting aid from the state government.
"Secondly, we need to ask whether all the promises made during the previous election (campaign) have been delivered or not. These are amongst the issues that we have discussed," he said.
Meanwhile, Mahdzir said Kedahans must be honest in evaluating between assistance rendered by the federal government and the state administration.
"We are talking about the people's economy, about the people's income and the people's welfare.
"Hence, the biggest question here is it the federal government or the state government that has been providing aid to the people?
"We will present facts, not rhetoric, lies to the people. The people must think wisely about their future, should we just remain like this, or we must bring about changes to secure a brighter future," he said.
