Bersatu suspends Kota Melaka, Hulu Langat divisions on eve of party elections

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has suspended its Kota Melaka and Hulu Langat divisions a day before the party's Supreme Council and vice-president elections.

The matter was confirmed by the party's executive secretary, Datuk Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya, in a statement.

He also said the conferences in these two divisions have been postponed to a later date to be decided.

"A management meeting on Oct 3, under the mandate given by the Supreme Leadership Council, decided to suspend the Kota Melaka and Hulu Langat divisions.

"As a result, the conferences for these divisions have been postponed until a date to be determined later," he said.

Meanwhile, FMT reported that the party's election committee confirmed that eight additional divisions have been suspended and will not be allowed to hold conferences for the party election tomorrow.

Its chairman Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi stated that the suspended divisions include Jasin, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Machang, Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Bendera, Tanjong, and Cameron Highlands, through a letter dated Oct 31.

This means members in the 10 divisions will not be able to vote to elect the three vice-presidents and the 20 Supreme Council members.
