JOHOR BARU: Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has announced plans to contest between 12 and 20 state assembly seats in the upcoming state election, indicating its readiness to either join Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH) in a coalition, or to run independently.
In a statement today, Amanah deputy chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the party had identified several targeted seats, including its intent to retain the Simpang Jeram seat in Muar.
Preparations are underway as Amanah seeks to align its objectives with both state and national PH leaders, the statement read.
Dzulkefly said that the party was also considering the possibility of a three-way contest among PH, BN, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Johor if coalitions could not be solidified.
This position arises from dissatisfaction with Johor BN's reluctance to form a unity government, despite BN's recent success in the Mahkota by-election.
"Amanah's decision reflects our disappointment with BN Johor's refusal to negotiate on the formation of a unity government, even following their victory in Mahkota," he said.
