No point fighting for seats if it leads to GRS defeat

KOTA KINABALU: Fighting for seats without securing victory in the upcoming Sabah elections is futile, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Chin Su Phin.

"The eight component parties within Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) need to sit and discuss.

"If we fight for those seats but cannot secure victory, GRS will still be unable to form the government.

"Then, what is the point?" he told reporters after opening the LDP's 31st party convention at Kian Kok Middle School here.

Chin, who retained his presidency, added that while the party has a target number of seats in mind, they will leave the final decision to GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said LDP is particularly interested in constituencies with a significant number of Chinese voters.

However, Chin dismissed the likelihood of an election happening soon, despite the political turmoil surrounding recent bribery videos.

He described the blurry footage implicating Sabah assemblymen as politically motivated.

On the party election results, Datuk Yong Wui Ching maintained as deputy president.

The vice-presidents are David Ong, Sim Fui, John Lee Tsun Vui, Yii Ming Seng and Robert Chong Thien.
