PUTRAJAYA: Umno has yet to receive any other applications from members whose memberships were suspended or revoked.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the matter, adding that all applications would be forwarded to the Umno Supreme Council for deliberation.
This follows the reinstatement of Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman last week, who was suspended in 2022 for criticising Zahid's leadership.
"So far, there have been no applications. If any are submitted, they will be brought to the management committee and then presented to the Umno Supreme Council. If there are any, they will be discussed at the meeting in January or the following month," he told reporters after attending the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's monthly assembly and Innovation Day celebration today.
On Saturday, Zahid said that there was no reason for the party's Supreme Council to reject the appeals of suspended members who demonstrate the same level of commitment as Tajuddin.
He said Tajuddin, who is also former Pasir Salak member of Parliament, had submitted four appeals to the party to have his suspension lifted.
Zahid said this when asked whether Umno plans to lift the suspensions of other members, including former vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.
On Nov 25, Umno lifted the six-year suspension on Tajuddin, effective immediately.
