SEREMBAN: The unity government has the potential to maintain its victory in the 16th General Election (GE16) if loyalty to the party and efforts to unite the people continue to be prioritised.
Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi assured that Umno and BN, as component parties, would remain fully committed to the unity government until the election.
"I would like to respond to what Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Friday in response to a journalist's question about whether the unity government can survive if the election is held soon. He is confident it can survive.
"In that context, I want to emphasise that the cooperation between Umno, BN, and the unity government will continue until GE16," he said after the 2024 BN Negri Sembilan Convention in Seremban today, which was also attended by BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Zahid was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement yesterday, expressing confidence that the unity government has the advantage to win if the election is held in the near future.
At the same time, he stressed that loyalty and obedience were key priorities in party leadership.
He also praised the performance of BN ministers, including Mohamad, for raising the country's profile on the international stage.
In his speech earlier, Zahid urged BN leaders to strengthen the internal structure of the party, engage with the people, understand the aspirations of the younger generation, leverage technology and social media, and mobilise party machinery effectively in preparation for the upcoming election.
"The problem in GE14 and GE15 was that many players, who should have demonstrated team spirit, ended up scoring their own goals, leading to defeat.
"The reality is we must all play our roles as team players to ensure victory. BN must not score their own goals," he said.
