KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu criticised his former party Pas for constantly changing political fatwa following its support for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said during his 37-year stint with the Islamic party, he was told that the party and Umno were not only different politically but also had differences in faith, before the Islamic party announced its cooperation with Umno under the Muafakat Nasional banner in 2019.
Mohamad, the agriculture and food security minister, drew a parallel with Pas' relationship with DAP, as when both parties worked together under the Pakatan Rakyat banner, the Islamist party used an agree-to-disagree formula.
However, after the party cut ties with DAP, the latter was accused of being a communist and that it wanted to form a Christian country.
"Based on all these incidents, we can conclude that the accusations and perceptions Pas promotes are merely political drama.
"Similarly, when Pas expresses support for Najib today, it is just a drama to gain Malay support.
"It's possible that one day, Pas will discard Najib if he no longer benefits Pas' politics," he said in a Facebook post.
He told Amanah members and Muslims not to be worried about the accusations made by Pas as any accusations made by the party were only for their interest.
His response came following a rally held by Pas on Monday in solidarity with Najib, before the Court of Appeal allowed the latter to initiate a legal bid to review the existence of an addendum order issued by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Najib claimed the order allowed him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.
Other than Pas leaders, the rally was also attended by some Bersatu leaders, including opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Some Umno leaders who attended the rally did so in their personal capacity.
Federal Territories Umno information chief Ghulam Muzaffar Gulam Mustakim said Pas and Bersatu did not actually care about Najib but were trying to make political gains.
