ONCE known as a town for retirees, Seremban badly needs an uprgrade in its move towards city status under Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
There has been so much hype on plans to merge Seremban and Nilai municipal councils into Seremban City Council.
There is no doubt that abandoned buildings and dwellings in Seremban need to be restored and the properties spruced up.
All the infrastructure and public facilities must be in place before Seremban folk enjoy city status.
The state government must look into the Seremban market, which was engulfed in a fire three years ago.The market’s reconstruction is moving at a snail’s pace.
The Terminal One bus station is congested during weekends with cars and tourist vehicles from all over the country.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke visits the bus station regularly as Seremban member of parliament.
Loke and Aminuddin must push to rebuild the Seremban Railway Station, which was constructed more than a few decades ago, without much of a facelift done over the years.
There was a plan to build and rename the station Seremban Sentral with integrated development and office blocks under the previous state Barisan Nasional government, which never took place after its defeat in the 14th General Election.
The state government must improve congestion in Seremban town, following the construction of the Middle Ring Road and other feeder roads where work is believed to be in progress.
The state government has moved development initiatives to Labu Sendayan and Nilai, and has built residential housing in Seremban 2 and Seremban 3 to ensure development is not centred in town.
Seremban folk, however, are looking forward to a vibrant city, and it being a shopping haven and a gourmet’s paradise for visitors.
