Killing of Kashmiri grandfather in front of grandson shocks world

LETTERS: We vehemently condemn the recent murder of a person in front of his grandson by Indian troops in Srinagar, Kashmir.

We are outraged by the horrendous killing of an unarmed civilian in front of his grandson by the Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sopore, Srinagar, yesterday.

The shocking images of a 3-year-old boy, whose grandfather was killed in the Sopore attack on Wednesday morning, is a clearly barbaric crime.

The killing of the civilian, Bashir Ahmed Bashir, reflects the terrorism carried out by India in Kashmir.

This is inhuman and brutal. To kill a person in front of his grandson shows how India does not have any qualms about murdering any Kashmiri civilian.

The son of the 51-year old said that his father was brought down from his vehicle and shot dead by CRPF.

The fact that killings by Indian troops are becoming more rampant and un-investigated only depicts the policy of genocide carried out by the Indian government.

We call for strong intervention by the world community. This horrific incident cannot be treated as an isolated case. It was executed as a matter of policy of the Indian government to instill fear in Kashmiris.

The UN cannot be silent and action-less. Human rights violations and population cleansing of Kashmir by Indian troops are becoming more frequent.

We urge the UN to call for the UNSC to set a specific meeting to urge India to abide by international law on the Kashmir dispute.

India must be held fully responsible for the treacherous crimes of its troops against Kashmiris.
