Dreaming of uninterrupted water supply

LETTERS: We should be concerned when the National Water Services Commission chairman said the country stood to lose RM15 billion if water problems are not addressed in the next 10 years.

In Selangor, it is worrying that water supply interruptions are a regular occurrence despite it being one of Malaysia's most developed states. The next interruption is scheduled for June 5 to 7.

A water advocacy group claimed that increasing demand and the expansive nature of the infrastructure are the main causes of supply disruptions.

Another state water body said population expansion and climate change had increased pressure on the water supply infrastructure.

The authorities should take decisive action to address the root causes of these disruptions and come up with long-term solutions to ensure consistent water supply for residents.

This may require investments in better maintenance procedures, upgrading infrastructure and introducing modern technologies to improve water management.

Honesty and openness are also essential and will be appreciated by residents.

The causes of each supply disruption, the actions taken to fix it and prevent future occurrences should be disclosed to the public at all times.
