LETTERS: The demonstration organised by certain parties in Putrajaya on Saturday is proof that Malaysia continues to practise a healthy democratic space where every individual has the right to voice their opinions freely and openly.
The Madani government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the president of PKR, steadfastly upholds the principles championed by the party specifically and Pakatan Harapan generally, including freedom of speech.
While there was a low turnout at the demonstration, it is important to remember that freedom of speech must be accompanied by responsibility and the organisers must comply with all legal provisions, including the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
At the same time, inciting, defamatory and insulting speeches directed at national leaders, including the prime minister, is unacceptable, as such actions would not only damage individual reputations but also affect the harmonious and democratic environment we have long fought for.
I am confident that the Madani government is committed to listening to the people's views and remains open to constructive criticism, as we believe that every opinion expressed fairly and ethically can contribute to the nation's development process.
Therefore, all parties should encourage and cultivate a culture of healthy discourse based on mutual respect and responsibility.
At the same time, all parties must ensure that open discussions and criticisms do not touch on sensitive issues such as the 3R sentiments (race, religion and royalty) to maintain the harmony of our multicultural society and national peace.
As the nation faces various economic and geopolitical challenges at the regional and global levels, the people should unite and work together to support the unity government in making Malaysia a better, more peaceful and prosperous country for all of us and future generations.
Every day, the prime minister and the national leadership work tirelessly to fulfil the people's mandate by introducing inclusive and effective policies for the benefit of all.
Therefore, Malaysians should look at the government's efforts and achievements recognised by various parties and not be swayed by unfounded accusations and slander backed by inaccurate information and skewed facts.
