Blaring music that Taiping Zoo can do without

AT around 8am today (Oct 1), as I was taking my morning stroll at Taman Tasik Taiping and while approaching the Taiping Zoo main entrance, I heard a deafening techno music noise coming from that direction.

This was rather unusual as we would like to respect the other visitors, the patrons and users of the Taman Tasik facility as they would jog, perform group exercises, walk briskly and enjoy the crisp and fresh morning air and the quiet serenity the venue offers.

More importantly, it is the welfare of the animals inside the enclosures of the Taiping Zoo which raises concern and pity. Not only were the animals already taken away from their natural habitat and their freedom restrained, now they had to endure loud music so early in the day.

The nocturnal animals would be going into their rest period and other animals would enjoy the beginning of the day. Imagine the stress they had to endure due to this activity.

Apparently, an international cycling tour was passing through the historic Taman Tasik and the organisers had chosen this particular spot to set up the podium and loudspeakers to celebrate the event.

There should be due consideration for regular local users of the facility and animals in the zoo.

Did the Taiping municipality and zoo authority consider these factors before allowing the event?
