APART from planning your personal territory and providing security to your house, the fence plays a key role in giving a tasteful look to your own landed property.
The first thing that greets you or your guests even before entering the house’s perimeter is the fence, and it can give a good impression to any onlooker.
Since most houses are already built using brick and concrete, adding some wooden elements with cengal, balau and kekatong to your exterior space will help give the whole landscape a more balanced feel.
Whether it’s drawing inspiration from the traditional Malay kampung houses or the medieval European cottages, having a wooden fence might just be a decent choice for perimeter marking.
According to Semenyih-based Landscape solutions company NBS Corp Sdn Bhd managing director David Kho, the timber fences give the whole environment a natural look, which is already very contemporary.
“It’s just a matter of choice for the owners who want to spruce up their property, while some are content with the metal or concrete fencing, some would opt for timber.
“For those who believe in Feng Shui, erecting a fence made from natural materials like wood can sometimes remedy bad Feng Shui, for example fencing off a sloping backyard — considered bad — with a fence made from natural materials is said to be able to remedy the problem,” Koh told NST Property.
“Recently there was a request from a customer to build a timber structure which looks like a traditional kampung house to be infused with their modern home. The trend is getting this way as people look for a balance between a kampung lifestyle and modern architecture,” said Koh.
“The timbers are not just sturdy but they last a lifetime, are weather-proof and also termite-proof.”
