InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will open Hotel Indigo on the Park Kuala Lumpur at Jalan P Ramlee in 2023.
The hotelier has inked a deal to bring the boutique upscale brand here in partnership with Techvance Properties Management Sdn Bhd.
Techvance Properties owns the 26-storey hotel. It acquired the property, previously a 13-storey office building known as AmBank Group Leadership Centre from AmFIRST Real Estate Investment Trust for RM36 million (RM622.83 per square ft) back in December 2015.
In January 2019, the company awarded the construction contract worth RM99.6 million for the hotel project to Crest Builder Holdings Bhd's unit Crest Builder Sdn Bhd.
Techvance Properties said it would convert the property into a 180-room hotel. The original 13-storey building had a net lettable area (NLA) of 57,801 square feet.
The company's managing director Datuk Edward Lau said it had explored various options for this hotel project.
"We quickly decided on the partnership with IHG once we were introduced to Hotel Indigo. The brand has a philosophy and values that align to our vision for this boutique property," Lau said in a statement.
IHG vice-president, development for Southeast Asia and Korea, Serena Lim said the hotel opening is part of the group's brand portfolio expansion in Kuala Lumpur.
Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park is the fifth hotel under the Hotel Indigo brand that has opened in Southeast Asia. There's a hotel each in Bangkok, Bali, Phuket and Singapore.
"No two Hotel Indigo properties are the same, and this stunning addition to the brand portfolio will have Kuala Lumpur's multicultural influences embedded in its DNA through a visionary design," she said.
Lim said sustainability is key in the hotel's creation with environmentally friendly methods prioritised in its planning, led by the use of reclaimed materials from nearby sites, solar panels on its roof, and rainwater harvesting.
