Johor will collaborate with developers to address the state's long-standing housing issues

Johor intends to collaborate with property developers to build up to 115,000 affordable homes across the state, and address long-standing housing issues.

Ayub Jamil, chairman of the state Housing and Local Government Committee, said that the effort will be mobilised through the Special Johor Housing Programme, which is capable of accelerating management and development.

According to Ayub, despite receiving planning approval, developers did not build 153,000 units of affordable or low-cost housing covering an area of 4,950 acres between 1997 and 2020.

He said that through the programme it intends to build 115,000 affordable houses or 75 per cent of the total 153,000 units that have been pending for the last 24 years.

"The Rumah Johor's main feature is a home of high quality and value. The prototype house constructed is a comfortable yet conducive home for residence," he stated in a statement.

Rumah Johor is made up of Rumah Makmur Johor (landed), Rumah Bandar Johor (low rise strata with no more than three storeys), Pangsapuri Ihsan Johor (low rise strata with no more than three storeys), Pangsapuri Johor (high rise strata with no more than three storeys), and Rumah Transit Johor (high rise strata with no more (four-storey strata).

The houses built under this programme will range in price from RM80,000 to RM300,000.
