The 680 customers who purchased a unit at the Selayang Star City development before it was abandoned will finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after six years of waiting.
White knight property developer Infra Segi Sdn Bhd has rebranded Selayang Star City, a longtime eyesore in Selayang, Selangor, and plans to finish it.
The renamed property is currently known as 168 Park Selayang and is situated along Jalan Kuching in Selayang.
It will have three residential towers and a two-level mall.
The High Court granted permission for Infra Segi, a reputable developer, to relaunch the project.
Notable developments of Infra Segi include Avani Sepang Goldcoast, Menara Surian, Nadi Bangsar, Scott Garden, and Royal Bintang Villa Resort.
168 Park Selayang Sdn Bhd was founded in 2021 by the Infra Segi founders to revive the project.
Its chief executive officer Edward Lum noted in a statement that the company is not new to the Selayang Star City project, having been the primary contractor chosen by the previous project developer.
The seven-acre Selayang Star City development was originally intended to include three residential blocks with 2,269 designer suites and another block with 305 serviced suites that will be operated as Holiday Villa Hotel and sit atop a five-storey mall with a net lettable area of 550,000 sq ft.
The Selayang Star City developer had said in 2016 that construction on the mixed development project is anticipated to resume in October of the same year, upon the completion of its remodeling exercise.
The service apartments and the hotel were expected to be completed in 2019, while the Star City Mall was expected to be done by 2018.
But in 2017, the project came to a standstill.
Lum said that Infra Segi experienced the same level of frustration as the 680 customers when the project was shelved.
But because of the location's proximity to Kuala Lumpur, great accessibility, and the area's quick development, the company opted to take on the role of the project's white knight developer after realising the potential of the area, he said.
Lum said the first phase of 168 Park Selayang comprises the construction of Block C and the mall podium, followed by the second phase, which will see the development of Block A coming up starting in the fourth quarter of this year.
He indicated that Block B's construction is anticipated to start in the middle of next year.
The project is aimed at first-time homebuyers searching for reasonably priced apartments near the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
According to Lum, the mall, which includes 850 parking spaces and a net lettable area of 235,000 square feet, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024.
