Pan Pacific Hotels Group, a subsidiary of Singapore-listed UOL Group Ltd, has finally opened Parkroyal Langkawi Resort on Langkawi Island's pristine Pantai Tengah beach after a five-year wait.
The Singapore group inked a management deal with Gagasan Langkawi Sdn Bhd in 2014 for the hotel development.
Parkroyal Langkawi Resort, with 253 rooms and nine villas, was set to launch in 2017, joining existing Parkroyal hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Penang to boost the brand in Malaysia.
Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur, Parkroyal Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, and Parkroyal Penang Resort are all owned and/or managed by Pan Pacific Hotels.
Parkroyal Langkawi Resort announced recently that it has 301 rooms, including six different room types, eight different suites, and seven villas, all of which have a private plunge pool and direct beach access.
Kurt Wehinger, general manager of the resort, said that as the world recovers from the pandemic, travellers are looking for more than simply a place to rest.
"They are seeking a haven where they can create unforgettable experiences with their loved ones. At Parkroyal Langkawi Resort, we believe that our new property, with its range of modern and comfortable accommodations, exclusive amenities, and pristine beachfront location, will deliver just that," he said.
Langkawi, an UNESCO Global Geopark, is a popular holiday destination for both the domestic and international markets.
The island welcomed 1.871 million visitors in 2022, up from 1.093 in 2021, and 1.804 in 2020, but still considerably down from the pre-Covid-19 highs of 3.924 million in 2019, and 3.63 million in 2018.
