Ipoh's oldest and highest low-cost flat, Kinta Heights, gets a new lift finally

KUALA LUMPUR: A new lift will be installed to service the residents of Kinta Heights, the oldest and tallest low-cost residential skyscraper in Ipoh, Perak.

The installation of the lift will cost RM930,000, and the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) anticipates completing the work in December 2023.

The Perak State Government developed Kinta Heights to provide low-cost homes for its residents.

The Jalan Bandar Timah landmark, which was recently refurbished for RM4.4 million, was constructed in 1982.

There are 280 apartments in the single 20-storey tower.

KPKT has budgeted RM20 million for development and upgrading works at several locations in Ipoh this year, including the lift for Kinta Heights.

Nga Kor Ming, its minister, said that one of the largest allocations was for the construction of a parking facility at Pekan Lama Ipoh, one of the city's primary tourist attractions, reported Bernama.

According to him, the building would have a colonial design, 376 parking spaces, and amenities like bars and restaurants in addition to commercial spaces.

Additionally, RM6.25 million was allotted for Seri Kepayang Flats and Bercham Flats to be upgraded by the Ipoh City Council and the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP).

The installation of a new lift and roof repairs at Flat Seri Kepayang will cost LPHP a total of RM4.25 million.
