KUALA LUMPUR: Dutch Junior Open girls' doubles champions, Pearly Tan-Toh Ee Wei, will head a 16-player for the Asia Junior Championships on July 14-22 in Jakarta.
The BA of Malaysia (BAM) have named a team that also include last year's Asian junior bronze medallists, Eoon Qi Xuan, Ng Tze Yong, Chia Wei Jie and Smiling Fish Junior International runner-up, Ooi Jhy Dar.
National youth coach, Kwan Yoke Meng believes the team still have enough depth, despite admitting the squad are not as strong as last year's team.
"Based on tournament performances, these players are the most impressive from my point of view.
"Our selection this time around also include a number of 16-year olds with a view to get exposure at a big mixed team tournament.
"While last year’s squad was stronger with the likes of Leong Jun Hao and Goh Jin Wei, I still believe the players have the character to cause an upset against higher ranked opponents and to meet our target of qualifying for the semi-finals.
"I hope that our players will be able to play to their true potential and without pressure," said Yoke Meng.
