Shuttlers Khai Xing-Aaron lead the way for Malaysia at Asian Juniors

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 boys' doubles Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai led the way for Malaysia at the Badminton Asia Juniors Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, today.

In the team event three days back, Khai Xing-Aaron played a pivotal role in helping Malaysia end their six-year medal drought in the competition.

After receiving a bye in the first round yesterday, they brushed aside Vietnamese Nguyen Hoang Thai Son-Tran Quoc Khanh 21-14, 21-15.

Goh Yi Qin-Lok Hong Quan will accompany Khai Xing-Aaron in the third round after they dispatched Karl Raphael Contreras-Ryan Mendoza of the Philippines 21-9, 21-5.

Loh Ziheng-Tan Zhi Yang shocked eighth-seeded Japanese pair Kenta Matsukawa-Yuto Nakashizu 21-19, 13-21, 21-19 to join their compatriots in the next round.

In the girls' doubles, seventh seed Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting defeated Nabila Cahya Permata Ayu-Reva Olivia Damayani from Indonesia 21-17, 21-9 in the second round.

Siti Zulaikha Azmi showed why she is the tournament's second seed in the girls' singles by ousting Adarshini Shri Boopathy Balaji of India 21-15, 21-12

Joining her in the next round is Dania Sofea Zaidi who defeated Christel Rei Fuentespina of the Philippines 24-22, 21-14.

However

mixed doubles pair Lok Hong Quan-Clarissa San went down to South Korea's Lee Hyeong Woo-Cheon Hye In 23-21, 18-21, 24-22.

Another Malaysian mixed doubles duo also suffered the same fate when Goh Yi Qin-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan were shown the exit by Lai Po Yu-Liang Ching Sun of Taiwan, 19-21, 21-19, 21-14.

However, Datu Anif Isaac Datu Asrah-Dania Sofea created cheers for the mixed doubles department after shocking Thai first seeds Attawut Sreepeaw-Sabrina Sophita Wedler 16-21, 21-17, 26-24.

In the boys' singles, sixth seed Faiq Masawi lost to Japan's Kazuma Kawano 21-17, 21-18.

Sng Wei Ming, too, was sent home by Lee Sun Jin of South Korea who won 21-17, 17-21, 21-16.

doubles, Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim-Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad lost to China's Chen Jun Ting-Liu Jun Rong 21-19, 21-18.

Sixth-seeded girls' singles player Ong Xin Yee lost to unseeded Wang Pei Yu of Taiwan 21-16, 21-18.
