KUALA LUMPUR: There was temporary chaos at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil here when everyone was asked to evacuate the building due to an emergency announcement at about 3pm today
Due to this, three ongoing Malaysia Masters matches were temporarily suspended.
It is understood that an irresponsible individual had lighted a cigarette in one of the lower floors of the stadium that triggered the smoke detector.
A National Stadium Board personnel aid the sensitive smoke detectors in the stadium would automatically trigger the pre-recorded announcement.
"Someone was smoking in one of the rooms downstairs that triggered the smoke detector and automatic announcement.
"Everything is under control and everyone is safe to go inside," he said.
As of now, the BA of Malaysia (BAM) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
