GOH Jin Wei is delighted to make a swift return to the court after undergoing surgery in October.
But the former Sea Games women’s singles champion is not expecting to repeat last year’s exploits in the Malaysia Masters beginning at the Axiata Arena on Tuesday.
Jin Wei, 20, who underwent surgery due to a stomach ailment, will be playing in the qualifying rounds at the Axiata Arena.
‘My current condition is at about 75 per cent and I don’t want to rush things at this stage,’ said Jin Wei during a visit to her former school, SMK Seri Hartamas, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
‘I am not putting any expectations on myself because I have not fully recovered, but it’s a good platform for me to gauge my performance.
‘I am happy to play and I just want to enjoy the tournament (Malaysia Masters),’ she said.
Jin Wei had a stellar 2019 where she beat world’s top 10 players like Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and He Bingjiao of China.
Lack of match practice may not help her overcome what could turn out to be a tough encounter against Hong Kong veteran Yip Pui Yin in the qualifiers on Tuesday.
However, Jin Wei is more than happy to be back in action and has taken a light approach in preparing for the event.
She visited SK Hartamas yesterday to hand over 120 tickets to students to watch her and the world-class field competing in the Malaysia Masters.
‘I’m happy to be back at my old school. It brings back memories of my time here.I learned a lot from this school. I hope they can come and support the national team,’ added Jin Wei.
