Youth and Sports Ministry to propose lifting ban on Lee Zii Jia

IPOH: A proposal to lift the ban on Lee Zii Jia from participating in international tournaments will be submitted by the Youth and Sports Ministry in a meeting with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and the national shuttler.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that he has listed several proposals to resolve the conflict between the two parties and the meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Ahmad Faizal, however, did not divulge further details of the proposals, but assured that it was to find a meeting point in the interest of the country and the sport.

"Of course I have some suggestions that I will propose. What is paramount right now is that we must place the importance of the sport and also the image of the country in the eyes of the world.

"On the matter (lifting of the ban), I will discuss in the meeting later," he said.

On Friday, Lee was hit with a two-year ban from international tournaments, following his resignation from the national badminton squad.

Badminton Association of Malaysia deputy president Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos said the reigning All-England men's singles champion could not register for any tournaments with effect from Jan 18 for two years.
