WOMEN'S singles Goh Jin Wei has followed in the example of Lee Zii Jia by submitting an appeal letter to the BA of Malaysia (BAM).
Both Jin Wei and world No 7 Zii Jia were slapped with a two-year suspension from all international competitions by BAM last week.
Zii Jia's suspension came after he submitted his resignation earlier this month to turn professional while Jin Wei's ban is believed to have been handed down after she made a U-turn regarding her decision to retire from the sport.
All England champion Zii Jia, however, submitted an appeal letter on Monday, and BAM have softened their stance on him after further discussions on the following day.
Although an official announcement is only expected next week, it is believed that BAM will let Zii Jia off with a fine rather than a suspension.
Now Jin Wei, who has already signed a deal with the Kuala Lumpur Racquets Club (KLRC), has followed suit in the hope that her suspension will be lifted as well.
"Yes, I submitted my appeal letter yesterday," said Jin Wei yesterday.
"Hopefully, things will work out, and I'm definitely hoping for the best."
BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh confirmed that the national body has received Jin Wei's appeal letter.
"We have received the letter from Jin Wei, and we will deliberate over it properly," said Kenny.
Jin Wei and Zii Jia's suspensions were met with widespread fury, both within Malaysia and from abroad.
Many believe that BAM have erred in punishing two of the nation's best prospects, especially with several major tournaments, including the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and Hangzhou Asian Games, this year.
For the record, Jin Wei, who turns 22 on Jan 30, was an outstanding prospect through her junior career.
The Penang-born was a two-time world junior champion and a Youth Olympic gold medallist. She had also won the women's singles title at the 2017 KL Sea Games.
However, Jin Wei had struggled with injuries and a stomach ailment, which led to her premature retirement in September last year before she had a change of heart.
