TOKYO: Denmark's Viktor Axelsen won his second world title today, beating Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-5, 21-16 in the final in Tokyo.
World No 1 Axelsen was too much for 21-year-old Kunlavut, who was blown away in the first game.
Axelsen, who won Olympic gold last year, also claimed the world title in Glasgow in 2017.
The 28-year-old Dane has been in imperious form in Tokyo, reaching the final without losing a single game. The win gave Axelsen his sixth title of the season.
"The conditions out there were not easy as Kunlavut is a tough player," said Axelsen.
"I'm happy with how I played, especially in the second game.
"I certainly handled the pressure well as the favourite.
"I hope to reach my full potential as an athlete one day. It gives me a lot of motivation, and I am privileged to be in this position and perform well under pressure.
"Now I will celebrate a little with some good food and see how my body is for the Japan Open."
World number 17 Kunvalut was playing in his first world championships final, having knocked out Singapore's defending champion Loh Kean Yew in the quarter-finals.
"Axelsen played a lot better, and he was really good in defence and offence.
"I am still young, and this final is a good learning curve for me for the future," said Kunlavut.
In women's singles, Japan's Akane Yamaguchi retained her title by overcoming China's Tokyo Olympics champion Chen Yufei 21-12, 10-21, 21-14.
