Soon Huat-Shevon stopped by China's World No 1 in semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai's fine run in the Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai, ended in the semi-finals today.

The independent Malaysian duo went down in straight games 21-11, 21-13 to China's world No 1 Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong.

The defeat was Soon Huat-Shevon's 11th in all competitions to the Chinese pair since 2018.

Si Wei-Ya Qiong, who are also the defending champions, will play the winners of the match etween Indonesia's Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja and China's Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the final.

Earlier in the men's singles semi-final, former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore put up a blistering performance to reach his maiden Asian Championships final.

The Penang-born Kean Yew, who has not had the best of seasons so far, downed China's Lu Guang Zu 21-19, 21-15.

Kean Yew will face the winner of the match between Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Japan's Kanta Tsuneyama in the final.
