KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai became the first national shuttlers to win a World Tour-level event on home soil in six years when they were crowned the Malaysia Masters champions on Sunday.
Newlyweds Soon Huat-Shevon beat Indonesia's Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari 21-18, 21-19 in the mixed doubles final to send the sold-out crowd at Axiata Arena into frenzy.
The last Malaysian shuttler to taste success at home was Lee Chong Wei when he won the Malaysia Open in 2018.
For Soon Huat-Shevon, it was their second title of the year after capturing the Swiss Open in March.
