KUALA LUMPUR: The door to the Paris Olympics is now officially closed for independent men's pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.
This follows their exit in the opening round of the All England after a 15-21, 23-21, 21-14 loss to China's Liu Yu Chen-Ou Xuan Yi at Arena Birmingham today.
Yew Sin-Ee Yi only had themselves to blame after failing to convert four match points, both at 20-17 and 21-20, in the second game, allowing their world No. 8 opponents to stage a comeback.
With this defeat, the Paris Olympics ticket is now out of Yew Sin-Ee Yi's reach.
Even if they were to win their remaining three tournaments - the Swiss Open next week, the Spain Masters (March 26-31), and the Badminton Asia Championships (April 9-14) - they would not be able to gather enough points to break into the top eight of the Race to Paris standings.
Yew Sin-Ee Yi, making their eighth straight appearance since their debut in 2017, have never performed well at the All England, with their best being a last-16 finish.
