KUALA LUMPUR: National men's pair Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King have reached their first Super 300 semi-finals on the World Tour at the Spain Masters in Madrid.
The world No. 65 defeated India's M.R. Arjun-Dhruv Kapila 21-19, 21-23, 21-17 in a thrilling 62-minute encounter on Friday.
Arif-Roy King will aim to go a step further by overcoming the Popov brothers, Christo and Toma Junior, in their next hurdle.
This tournament marks only the second appearance for Arif-Roy King this year, following the Swiss Open last week, as Roy King just returned from a lengthy injury layoff.
The result showed that Roy King has overcome the injury setback which sidelined him for three months.
Meanwhile, Leong Jun Hao's gallant run in the men's singles came to an end when he was defeated by Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen.
Jun Hao was soundly beaten 21-16, 21-12 by the former world No. 2.
