Aaron-Khai Xing bag maiden senior title

KUALA LUMPUR: The future of men's doubles for Malaysia is looking bright with the emergence of Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing.

On Sunday, the junior pair clinched their first title on the senior circuit when they upset favourites Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 21-17, 21-18 in the Thailand International Challenge final in Korat.

Given their impressive form this season, the Malaysian pair's success did not come as a big surprise.

Earlier this month, Aaron-Khai Xing landed the much-coveted Dutch Junior title in Haarlem and then went on to reach the German Junior final a week later.

In fact, they have reached at least the quarter-finals in all competitions this year.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) junior director Jeffer Rosobin hopes the pair's fine showing will be reflected in this year's Asian and World Junior Championships.

"It has been a great start to the year, not just for Aaron-Khai Xing, but the entire junior squad.

"These players are from our development project, and we hope to see them maintaining similar consistency when they compete at the Asian and World Junior Championships and other senior tournaments," said Jeffer.

Regarding his advice to Aaron and Khai Xing ahead of the final, Jeffer added: "I simply told them to gain as much experience as possible from the Thailand IC. Only through experience can one learn and become better."

The Asian Junior Championships are scheduled for June 28-July 7 in Bali, while the World Junior Championships will be held in China from Sept 30-Oct 13.

Jeffer disclosed that some of the junior players, including Aaron-Khai Xing, will compete in lower-tier European senior tournaments before the junior events.
