KUALA LUMPUR: Professional mixed pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing caused a major upset to reach the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta, on Friday.
World No. 21 Kian Meng-Pei Jing defeated South Korea's eight seeds and world No. 8 Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun 21-8, 21-19 in the quarter-finals and will face world No. 5 Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin of China for a place in the final on Saturday.
Zhen Bang-Ya Xin advanced after stunning compatriots and world No. 2 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping 21-17, 11-21, 21-16 for their first win in eight meetings.
This marked the third time Kian Meng-Pei Jing made it to the last four in a Super 1000 tournament.
They were also the semi-finalists at the 2019 Indonesia Open and 2023 China Open.
