BAM's Olympics-bound shuttlers ask for 'extra homework'

KUALA LUMPUR: The shuttlers themselves have asked for it.

So, BAM will conduct extra practice sessions at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia for their Olympic-bound shuttlers.

BAM coaching director Rexy Mainaky said today the players themselves had asked for additional training sessions with the Paris Games only 37 days away.

He said there will be days with three training sessions a day -- including a night session.

"Maybe twice or three times a week we will have three training blocks a day."

However, Rexy stressed that the players' fitness level also needs to be taken into account even though they want extra training sessions.

"We will start the extra sessions this month until we depart for France.

"Even though they asked for extra sessions, we have to look at their condition first. We don't want any last minute injuries to happen," said Rexy.

At the Paris Olympics, Malaysia will be represented by independent players, Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei, men's pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, women's pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and mixed pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei.
