Aaron-Wooi Yik confirm quarter-final spot at Paris Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 4 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have guaranteed themselves a top-two finish in Group A, securing a place in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics.

This comes after top seeds and world No. 1 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China also clinched their second victory against Britain's Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.

Wei Keng-Wang Chang staved off a brave challenge from their world No. 18 opponents to win 21-18, 13-21, 21-14.

Earlier, Aaron-Wooi Yik defeated Canada's world No. 32 Nyl Yakura-Adam Dong 21-10, 21-15 in just 38 minutes.

Aaron-Wooi Yik and Wei Keng-Wang Chang will clash on Monday to decide the group winners.

Even though they have ensured their progression to the knockout stage, it remains crucial for Aaron-Wooi Yik to emerge as Group A winners.

Winning the group would boost not only their morale significantly but also place them on top of the upper half of the draw, potentially avoiding other seeded pairs, including South Korea's reigning world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae or India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty at least until the semi-finals.
