Rewards rolling in for Zii Jia, Aaron and Wooi Yik [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Zii Jia stands to gain more than RM200,000 in reward for winning a badminton bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

Zii Jia defeated India's Lakshya Sen 13-21, 21-16, 21-11 in the men's singles bronze match on Monday.

This amount includes the National Sports Incentive Scheme (SHAKAM) payout worth RM100,000 and a lifetime monthly Olympic "pension" of RM2,000 for Zii Jia.

The 26-year-old independent shuttler will also receive a sponsored car from Chery Malaysia in the form of a RM123,800 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

Zii Jia's victory saw Malaysia collecting their second bronze medal in Paris, as a day earlier, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik had finished third in the men's doubles.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will also be rewarded with a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro each apart from getting RM100,000 under SHAKAM, but they won't get the monthly RM2,000 Olympic 'pension' this time.

That is because Aaron-Wooi Yik have already been included in the Olympic Fixed Incentive Scheme after winning bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

All three shuttlers may receive more money as they are in line for more rewards from corporate sponsors and the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
