Sze Fei-Izzuddin charge into Japan Open final

KUALA LUMPUR: Soon-to-be independent shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin are just one win away from bagging their career biggest title after charging into the final of the Japan Open today.

World No. 12 Sze Fei-Izzuddin produced a superb display to beat Indonesia's newly paired Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana 21-19, 21-17 and reach their maiden Super 750-level final.

The win came moments after Sze Fei-Izzudin were granted a release by the Badminton Association of Malaysia after the duo requested to leave the national team last week.

Izzuddin-Sze Fei will face South Korea's world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae in the title decider tomorrow.

Izzuddin-Sze Fei's most significant victories to date were winning the 2022 German Open and 2023 US Open, both Super 300-rated.
