Tang Jie-Ee Wei take revenge against husband and wife team

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are pleased to have broken their losing streak against professional duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai.

In an all-Malaysian quarter-final at the Korea Open today, the world No. 9 defeated Soon Huat-Shevon 21-18, 21-11 in 34 minutes.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei had come out second best against the husband-wife team of Soon Huat-Shevon in the Malaysia Masters and Swiss Open earlier this year.

Tang Jie is delighted to get one over world No. 13 Soon Huat-Shevon.

"My partner carried us in this match, I'm happy we can get the breakthrough against Soon Huat-Ee Wei," said Tang Jie.

"Before this, we had lost two matches against them consecutively," added the 26-year-old.

Ee Wei said being familiar with their opponents does not always mean having an advantage.

"Tang Jie used to train with them every day and we do know each other's game well.

"But usually it is who performs well on the day that will win the match," said the 23-year-old.

In the semi-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will face China's world No. 31 Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi. The Chinese pair defeated Taiwan's Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan 21-9, 21-19 to book their semi-final place.
