Tze Yong resumes training after injury layoff

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong has resumed light training with the national squad, according to Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director Rexy Mainaky.

The Indonesian coach revealed that the 24-year-old returned to training two weeks ago but is still undergoing rehabilitation following two back surgeries in February and April.

"He's training but not at full intensity yet. When he's at ABM, it's for no more than an hour at a time," said Rexy at ABM in Bukit Kiara.

"Tze Yong is moving well but still needs rehab to regain his strength."

The 56-year-old coach added that the 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist is expected to return to the World Tour next year.

Tze Yong's back injury, sustained during the Asian Team Championships in Shah Alam in February, denied him a chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
